#1Should I Get High Fidelity Recording?
Posted: 6/30/07 at 6:57pmIs the High Fidelity cast recording any good? I didn't see it and haven't heard much of it, but I heard a demo with Norbert Leo Butz singing one of the songs and I liked the song. Is Will Chase good? What are some good songs I can listen to previews of on iTunes or something?

I say buy it! But then, I'm a packrat, and all for collecting things. Buy it buy it buy it! And if you hate it TOO much when you've done so, you could send it to me? ;D

I say don't buy it. I like...3 songs, but that's it.
I'm just glad I didn't buy it but got it from a friend, because it really isn't worth 18 dollars or so for that cd.

If you're looking into downloading the music from iTunes, I'd recommend saving money (and your time) by downloading only the following:
Last Real Record Store on Earth
Desert Island Top 5 Breakups
She Goes
Number 5 with a Bullet
Nine Percent Chance
I feel like the rest only worked within the context of the show (e.g. Conflict Resolution, which was hysterical but highly visual, and other songs like It's No Problem and Ian's Here) or are just poor songs (e.g. Turn the World Off, Ready to Settle). However, if you're unfamiliar with the plot entirely, I guess I'd go for the entire album just in order to get an idea of what's going on. Or just watch the movie or read the book.

Posted: 6/30/07 at 7:55pmI bought it for $18 (Canadian that is...) and I know I shouldn't rush to judgements because I haven't listened to every song yet - but so far, I'm not impressed. But who knows, maybe you'll enjoy it...

Posted: 6/30/07 at 9:35pmI never got to see the show, but I have liked some of Tom Kitt's other songs. I bought it off of itunes and have yet to get through the whole CD. I just can't do it and that rarely happens.

Posted: 6/30/07 at 10:05pmNo. It's not worth it. The only song I really like on it is "Ready to Settle".

...or are just poor songs (e.g. Turn the World Off, Ready to Settle).
Aww- ok, Turn the World Off is not the most brilliant song ever, I'll give you that, but I love Ready To Settle- I thought it completely worked both as a ballad, and yet also as a satire of love ballads...
My heart is dead, a hollow bone
I'm filled with dread I'll end up alone
I'll move in my stuff, act like it's enough
I'm past 32, and I'm ready to settle
for you
...that's some funny stuff right there. :)

Save your money and your sanity - DO NOT BUY THIS RECORDING!!!
This was quite possibly the worst show I have ever seen. There was a reason it closed a week after it opened. I would have left at intermission if I hadn't been with other people. Thank god my ticket was a comp!
Will Chase is awesome, but the music isn't even memorable. If you're still enticed, just download it off limewire or something. Then you can just delete the songs after you realize that you've wasted an hour of your life listening to them - but without feeling guilty over wasting your money as well.

I love the CD. I've listened to it dozens of times.
Worth my money.

Posted: 7/1/07 at 12:06pmYeah, the score is basically undistinguished generic rock with a few character numbers tossed in. As everyone notes, Amanda Green's lyrics are superior but Tom Kitt's music does not rise to the occasion

Posted: 7/1/07 at 12:16pmI thoroughly enjoy many of the songs on the recording and have never regretted spending my money. I saw the show and while it was not fantastic, it had a lot of redeeming moments and many of them are captured on the cd. If nothing else, Will Chase sounds AMAZING. There's never reason to regret spending $18 on musical theatre if for no other reason than to support the community you love!
