Go see it. Don't waste the opportunity to see this amazingly touching show with the equally amazing Patti LuPone as Rose. I adore her, but I can see how some can, as you said, take her or leave her 
She was born to play this role as much as she was Evita.

i saw this production this summer at the city center. some people hated it but i enjoyed it. patti played a great mama rose and laura benati got better as the show went.
it's worth seeing i think, i know this is her dream role so it's always good to see an actor in the role they've always wanted to play to see how they stack up.
i enjoyed it!
