is this producton still on? Last I heard about it was while the production was still on B'way. I figured the talk died after the B'way production closed at a loss.
I'd love to see her take it over. Sure, she's a little too old but I'd gladly see her again.

Rumours have surfaced that it will play the Shaftesbury Theatre after Hairspray for a short season.
'London loves her.'
Where did you get that idea? Im english, and other than die hard theatre fans not many people will know who she is.

Maybe Les Miz? I have no idea; I didn't think she was very popular.
Contrary to the OP, I would die of joy if this happened.

The 'London loves her' thought comes from the fact she was the first American actress to win an Olivier, for LES MIZ and CRADLE WILL ROCK. Also, audiences and critics were fans of her Norma in SUNSET BLVD, even if Frank Rich wasn't. And she also went over with a successful run of MASTER CLASS.
Granted that was all over 10 years ago, but it's safe to say she's had some considerable luck in her career over in London.
She may have been in some sucesfull productions here in London, but i wouldn't say London loves her. I'm pretty sure that like princeton said, not many people know who she is. She's hardly a star on these shores. If Gypsy was really gonna sell in London, Elaine Paige would be a much bigger draw than LuPone. Hell any minor celebrity in Britain would be more of a draw than LuPone!

One of the brightest stars of the American Musical Theater in one of the very best parts for a woman from the American Musical Theater cannon - Ah....Yeah. It would be a treat for British audiences to get to see LuPone in Gypsy. And if Laura Bennanti were to go as well, so much the better - I have never seen a better Gypsy Rose Lee.
