I was just wondering should OBC members of shows go on tour with there show. I think it would be cool if the could. What do you think.
Example:
Idina Menzel joins the touring cast of Wicked.
Broadway Legend Joined: 9/29/04
Only if they are staying with the tour for an extended period of time. I don't like it when the Broadway star appears only at one stop on the tour. What if I am in that town and was looking forward to the tour star??
Well, just like they aren't obligated to stay with the Broadway production forever, I don't think they should have any obligation or be expected to go on tour. If they want to, sure, but it shouldn't be some sort of expectation.

I think if a performer was key to the show's success- then yes. Example- If they had toured the recent GYPSY revival, Bernadette Peters should have been Rose- no question. Sometimes though, you must respect the performers desire to move onto other projects- if they are available.
Yeah I dont think it would be fair to them to make it mandatory that they follow the tour if they are in the broadway production but if it were there choice then sure, its always cool to see the person who originated the role in the tour. However I also dont like the idea of the 1 stop special. For example these rumors that Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel are going to reprise their roles in LA. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Them in their respective roles but frankly I'm very excited to see Stephanie J Block and Kendra Kassebaum as Elphie and Glinda and I'd be dissapointed if I didn't end up getting to see them because of that because I can't travel somewhere else afterward to see them in a different state (too young and no money for airfare).
I agree with Joshua.
It's unfair for it to be expected. Performers have the ability to do shows on Broadway, yet may not logistically have the same ability to tour around the continent. What about performers who have families in New York? Is it right to expect them to go on tour just because people they're an important part of the show? Almost anyone can be at least reasonably replaced. We do manage to find understudies, don't we?
What Emcee said, alot of the cast from the NY shows have obligations whether they be professional or personal in NY and can't go on tour. I think we'd loose alot of good broadway stars in amazing parts if part of the contract was that they had to tour around the US as well as perform on broadway.
