Every so often the question is discussed: how often should theater revive its classics? Should it be like opera and put them in rotation more often?
How often should we revive Gypsy, West Side Story, Death of A Salesman, The Glass Menagerie, etc?
As often as an artistic case can be made for reviving them.
Every other season. Heck, Gypsy's almost there already, why not do it a little more often. Except plays. Plays should be done every season. First with a white cast, then black, then Asian...
If you would like Broadway to be more like the Metropolitan Opera, where new works are performed rarely, briefly, then disappear forever, I say sure, go ahead.
Please give Gypsy a rest for awhile.
