Shouldn't there be a Tony Award for Best Makeup? i think there should be. It is a huge factor in shows. It helps to transform people into someone there not. I feel bad for Makeup artists on Broadway, I mean they could do something amazing like Cats or Beauty and the Beast and get almost no recognition. Discuss.

While I do agree with you on the fact that Make-Up Artists don't recieve enough recognition, I doubt that the Tony Commitee will ever make an award for that. If they were to go in that direction they might as have a Tony for Best Stage Manager, or Best Costumer. While ALL those people contribute SO much to the show, the Tony Com. would just never go for it

Doesn't this kind of get lumped in with costumes? Since the make-up artist and costume designer would probably work together? Also, maybe because there are not enough shows each year that have extensive make-up requirements that would warrant an award. Granted, shows like Cats, Beauty and the Beast, etc. are very deserving of that type of an award...there may not be enough shows like that each year to fill up a separate category with nominations. This year for instance...Spamalot is the only show I can think of that really had to do extensive make-up work in order for Christian Borle, Steve Rosen, Chris Seiber, etc. to play so many different roles. It does seem like maybe a special award could be given at least...I still would like to see a "Best Song" category...but the Tonys are already pressed for time as it is so they most likely won't start adding more awards.

Some actors do their own makeup.
And sometimes the person who is in charge of the wigs, they do the make-up also.
