Show Help Dec 2016 and May 2017

Hi All - I used to live in NYC and while living there, got hooked on live theater. Moved away years ago, but every since I lived in NYC, I've been stalking these boards. But now I need some help. I'll be visiting NYC in Dec 2016 with my mom, and back again sometime in May 2017 with my boyfriend.

Dec 2 - Dec 6

Not alot of time here, and Cats is already booked for Sat evening (yes, I know there are some here that are not fans, but it is a must for my mom and me). Other shows I am considering for us: The Cherry Orchard, The Color Purple, Fiddler on the Roof, Beautiful, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet.

Considering Beautiful for my mom, but I also think Les Liaisons might be too risque for her taste.

May- Dates are TBD, but about a week

Considering: Little Foxes, Dear Evan Hansen, Oslo.

What is the likelyhood that Natasha will extend into May? Tickets are only on sale right now through late April, I really want to see the show. I know I will be kicking myself if I don't see it in Dec and then it closes by May. And what about Les Liaisons Dangereuses, any chance of that extending into May at all? Would you think it's too much for a conservative 65 year old woman?

The Color Purple is not to be missed, and I would also strongly, strongly urge you to see this gorgeous production of Fiddler before it closes.

Liaisons will not extend because Significant Other will play the Booth after it closes. As to appropriateness, the London reviews of this production said there is an uncomfortable rape/'seduction' scene in it. I think I also read there was no nudity, however.

I would think there is a good chance Natasha will last until the Tonys in June of next year.

I would agree that Natasha, Pierre... will play into the summer, but there are absolutely no guarantees, and if they can't find an audience (despite Josh Groban & good word of mouth) it could shutter before April. It's an open-ended run that could close at any time... or not. If you really wanna see it I would advise to see it in December to be on the safe side...

Beautiful is great, and it seems like a good show to see with your mum! I've seen it with Chilina Kennedy after Jessie left and thought she was great in it!

Personally, I think you can miss Fiddler. It will likely go on tour, too, so you could still catch this production on the road. Color Purple wasn't my thing so much, but tour is not so much of an option here, because the reason to see this production is Cynthia Erivo.

Definitely see Dear Evan Hansen in the spring! With other shows for May, you should probably wait a bit to see what's gonna be playing. Gaps are filling in, but many shows can open and close before May.

Thank you all - all very helpful! My mom and I will commit to Beautiful Sunday evening, because nothing else we want to see is playing then. After reading more about the story of The Color Purple, it doesn't sound like something my mom would enjoy. I will let my mom choose between Fiddler on the Roof and Natasha Pierre.... If she doesn't choose Natasha, I'll just pray it extends. After seeing the post here about Liaisons, it's definitely something my mom would not want to see, so I'll just find some time to slip away and see it solo. But now I'm debating if I should see Cherry Orchard or Liaisons solo.... Ugh!
