Show lotterys?

Posted: 11/17/04 at 2:04pmHow many shows in NY have lotterys? Wicked obviously (I'm 0 and 3 there), Rent still? and what else? And how often have you won and all that-Just curious-I'm sure this thread will make someone mad.

Rent still has lottery. (I'm 1 for 1). And Wicked, yep (1 for 1 too....whooo!). Umm...that's all I know.
An interesting side topic would be which rush policy do you think is more fair or "better"? Line-up or lottery?

Posted: 11/17/04 at 3:45pmI think a line-up rush is more fair. The people who really want to see the shows can get in line earlier and are rewarded for their time. It's not just random. I like that. I seem to have no luck with a random lottery.

Posted: 11/18/04 at 11:16pmNo kidding-I'm 0 for 4 at Wicked's Lottery. Got amazing tickets in the cancelation line anyway-but that was 75 more than I wanted to spend. I agree with the Rush line idea--definitely would be more fair. I'll have to try my luck at Avenue Q. Updated On: 11/18/04 at 11:16 PM

Why is a rush line more fair? It favors people who can get there early in the morning, and have the time to stand in line for hours. I'd say that's pretty unfair to those of us with jobs and school. Not to mention that having people camping out in front of the theater is an annoyance and a safety hazard.
A lottery is the most perfectly fair system. Everyone gets an equal chance. And I say this as someone who had to try the Avenue Q lottery 10 times before winning.

Yeah, I'm with Plum. The reason Rent started doing a lottery was b/c of the ridiculous crowd control that went into having hundreds of rabid teen fans camped outside of the theatre! I can understand a normal rush being more fair in theory, but it's a drag for the theatre owners and surrounding businesses, etc....
(And I guess I should be punished, I'm 1 for 1 with both Wicked and Ave. Q. Flog me now.)
