How long do these tours tend to last?

Busker Alley toured in a few cities and was going to open at the St. James, but that was cancelled when Tommy Tune broke his foot.

Usually there..what? I think 3 months (like tour during the summer and open in the fall). Jekyll & HYDE had it's first tryout in January 1995 at TUTS, followed by it's run in February in Seattle, then toured March '95 until April '96-ish; the idea was to land on Broadway do a quick preview week and open at the end of the season, but obviously the exact opposite happened: everything changed and they had almost 40 days of previews I believe!

my understanding from a FOSSE Toronto featured player (so featured that her image was used to promote the show in NYC, including on bus sides) was that the show not only changed some cast for Broadway, but a director. She did not appear in NYC, replaced i believe by Valerie Pettiford.

I guarantee that at some point one or both of us will want to get out. But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life..."

Robert Longbottom's upcoming tour of DREAMGIRLS is hoping to come to Broadway in the fall of next year.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

JCS had a pre-Broadway tour back in '71, though this was aimed more at combating pirate productions by amateurs and getting the live version of the show out there. The revival in 2000 was supposed to have one that ran through Boston, L.A. and Toronto, but it never happened.

A couple years ago, Michael Mayer (of Spring Awakening and Thoroughly Modern Millie Fame) was supposed to direct a pre-Broadway tour for a 'Hair' revival. That never happened.
