Wow, bronxbound. It's becoming increasingly clear we're never going to agree on anything. :)

A Little Night Music is a Sondheim masterpiece, one of his finest scores.

And...I think it would have been best all around if Laughing Room Only had never opened.

I'd say Phantom of the Opera even though its still playing. It does deserve a shorter run.

I like the idea of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. It's right under PHANTOM. Is it THAT good?

Cats
Beauty and the Beast (tho deep down i want it to run just long enough for me to play gaston)
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel

OH CALCUTTA! was a truly lame revue of sex-themed sketches and musical numbers which were created by the such esteemed figures as Sam Shepard, John Lennon, Jules Feiffer, Kenneth Tynan and others that owed its incredible longevity (6000+ performances) mainly to countless foreign tourists over the years who came to New York from countries where on stage nudity was forbidden (the show offered headsets with simultaneous translation in over a dozen languages).

I don't think Rent should still be running but I think Im the only person who feels that way.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

re: Shows that deserved a shorter run.

Luckily I never paid money to see Oh Calcutta!, friends rented the video years ago and boy was it stupid...even the nudity was disappointing. Most of them should've kept their clothes on !!! Margo is correct, the only reason it ran for so long was because it became an attraction in NYC..like the Statue of Liberty (which is more exciting).

re: Shows that deserved a shorter run.

'Grease' did not deserve to run for 3,388 performances.

And 'Night Music' only ran for, I think, 601 performances, if anything it deserved a much *longer* run.

LaChuisa's 'Wild Party' deserved a shorter run

Lippa's deserved a longer run and a move to B'way
