that was cool i hope it is a hit on broadway.
This looks great, I can't wait to see it!
This video also has some great production footage... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxjUGGqoSeU
I'm really liking the little bit I've seen so far. Honestly is there a better match for Fiona than Sutton? She is Fiona in my opinion. I was a bit shocked by the first Shrek make-up shots we saw but seeing it in action is a lot different than just a still photo. They may have gone for literal but its seems to be working great for them.
I saw it last weekend at 3rd row center orchestra. I thought it's a theme park musical and was very disappointed. You think Mary Poppins was a theme park musical? At least it has the tap dancing on the ceiling.
You know what exactly would happen and no "wow" factor. Basically, to me, the flaw of the show is that there is no room for imagination for the audience. The cast met the expectation but nothing more. The choreography was lame (Morning Person tap dance is out of no where, it was throwing there to show Sutton's tapping ability), the jokes were lame (musical spoof was not funny), the transformation of Fiona was lame (no BATB effect there), some of the numbers were just "WTF." I think the critics in Seattle are overly nice to this show. I can't believe Christoper Sieber is saying this is a "specutaclar" show. Yes they have a dragon, but there's no suspence of escaping from the dragon's nest.
But I wasn't a targeted audience, I guess. I'm sure families with kids under 10 yrs old will get kick out of this show. And the producer, Dream Works has a deep pocket, so it should be able to keep it running even NY critics won't be as kind as Seattle critics.
I find it interesting that all of the footage so far has made a careful effort not to show donkey or dragon. Perhaps they are planning on changing the costumes before they come to new york?

According to a recent Variety article, apparently so.
By the time the show hits New York's Broadway Theater Dec. 14, there will be significantly redesigned costumes for two major characters, Donkey and the Dragon (currently represented by a confusing amalgam of a giant puppet and nine actresses).
I'm hoping they dump the puppet altogether. It's a focus stealer that people are identifying as the dragon instead of Kecia. However it's reconceptualized, it needs to be an extension of the actress - with focus on her, and not a completely separate entity.

I really love that clip with Sutton Foster. She just seems to be doing a really neat job embodying Fiona (her movements, her voice, etc).
