It looks like "Shrek the Musical" is coming to the West End after all. The show is likely to begin performances in March 2011 at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane which is currently home to the revival of "Oliver," which wis scheduled to close January 8, 2011. I think this could be the next "Legally Blonde" in London. "Legally Blonde" did not have a very long run on Broadway, but when it moved to the West End it received critical acclaim. I think this show has a chance of succeeding in that way as well.

Legally Blonde ran longer then Shrek as well as grossed more.
Also, Shrek was a animated movie and Legally Blonde was a comedy with actual people.
Now I'm fully prepared to eat my words but I do not think Shrek will be as big of a success, and I did predict months before Legally Blonde opened in the West End that it would be a smash but I just can't see the same fate for Shrek. But we'll see, like I said, I'm ready to eat my words...

Summer Strallen said she would be interested in playing Fiona and according to rumors at whatsonstage.com she supposedly got a call back for the role. Next summer my family and I might go to London and I'd love to see her in that role since I'm a huge fan of her's.

Where people more familiar with Broadway than the West End might be surprised by Legally Blonde's success, I'm not at all. However, I'm not so sure you can take a hen party to Shrek, so I'm less confident about that one making as much of a splash over here.

Keep in mind Shrek is going into a much larger theatre than the Broadway - Drury Lane - whereas Legally Blonde downsized into a much smaller theatre when it transferred to London.
The bonus is that it's a family show, though I doubt it'll run as long as Lion King, it should have reasonable run.
