so I just saw the Shrek tour here in San Diego and I enjoyed it for the most part...

I was reading that stuff was changed for the tour and characters removed...

has anyone seen the broadway and the tour and can say what was better or i guess more polished?? i know the mirror was taken out... what was the mirror's part in the show?

I saw both. I found both productions to be enjoyable, but I couldn't help but I feel I was at a lengthened theme park show. I was really mad they took out the mirror. It was an awesome effect. I am in the minority here, but I thought Sutton Foster was way better than Haven Burton as Fiona.

I hated the show with a profound passion. I *loathed* it. Even I thought the way the mirror was done was pretty cool. Perhaps it was too expensive or cumbersome to mount when the venue is non-permanent.

It was a giant mirror with a screen built. They had sensors on Pinochio's face backstage (Tartaglia also did the voice of the mirror), and whenever he would move his face, the mask on the screen would move. It looked exactly like the movie. It was really cool and I'm sad they took it out.

I don't remember exactly, but the mirror was the lead in to I Know It's Today. It wasn't moved. The mirror gave an intro to all the princesses, and when it got to Fionna and the part about her being in a tower since she was seven, the mirror voice over faded out as Fionna's tower rotated into place. I don't remember how it was different on tour. I do remember being pit out that the mirror was gone though!

eatlasagna- why do the specifics matter?

no offense. i'm not judging your questions, i'm just wondering why you care exactly what was different. the broadway show closed, you already missed the boat on seeing that one.

just a question... not trying to be snarky.

well you are snarky.. but whatever this is BWW... did you really need to ask? what does me knowing do to you? you can either choose to answer or not... it's not like i had bad grammar or am spouting off nonsense or misinformation.... I just like knowing differences to shows that creative teams make during a shows evolution... this stuff intrigues me... if you don't like it... move along

i was just asking buddy, not being an a$$hole.

"I just like knowing differences to shows that creative teams make during a shows evolution... this stuff intrigues me."

that was your answer. the rest was unnecessary.

next time take a breath before you jump down someone throat.

Lightguy, in EatLasagna's defense, whenever someone tells me "no offense" the first thing I do is take offense. :)

Yes, clearly the only reason for the question from lightguy was to be snarky. And clearly when someone starts with "no offense" what they mean is "I'm now being offensive".

BWW has gone downhill in respect lately.

If you don't like the question, don't answer it. I would like to know the changes in depth too, because I am interested in changes in a piece. That is what this thread is about, the specifics of Shrek's tour changes.

At what point in the show's genesis did Magic Mirror go from being an onstage character in a mirrored suit to being a face-mapping CGI projection? Was it at the same time that Tartaglia's role was cut down greatly with several of his characters cut, or was it after that?

I remember that at the middle of the Seattle run, the musical had both, the face would talk then the screen's middle panel would lift and a game show host would enter. The rest of the show was the John as the mirror on the screen after that.

By the time it got to broadway, it was 100% screen. I wasn't aware that there was an onstage character in a mirror costume. I want to see that, it sounds interesting.

Why is it OK to be curious as to exactly what changed in the Shrek tour and verboten to wonder why Eatlasagna ONLY asks questions about that one damn show?

make a thread about Eatlasagna's damn obsession then it would be better. this one is more about shrek than being as*es about his fair questions.

But, as I have added another off topic post to this thread, I apologize to the OP and would love to get back onto the changes. sorry. Updated On: 7/7/11 at 02:54 PM
