Sight and Sound Theater reopened?

Just saw a commercial for Sight & Sound theater in Lancaster PA's annual production of Queen Esther. Guess they are open? I've never been there but passed it a few times.

Sight and Sound Theater reopened?

They're advertising the production that never got to open last year due to COVID. They do a different Biblical spectacular every year with some being better than others.

It looks as though they do plan to re-open this June.

Sight and Sound Theater reopened?

Lots of small non-eq theaters across the country are open, many have been since around October. And apparently people are going if they’re still performing.

Sight and Sound Theater reopened?

Pretty sure the Branson, MO location was operating in 2020. Lots of google reviews posted recently.

I agree with the previous reviewer, while the cast and show is phenomenal as always, there were little to no precautions for COVID. The only thing observed were 2 seats empty between parties to your sides, while with the always cramped seating you literally have someone breathing on you from the row above, and you are breathing on the people in front of you only inches away. This makes for a very unsafe situation in these times. There were signs encouraging mask use, but it was not enforced. The staff seemed unconcerned. They are definitely worshipping the almighty dollar here as well as the Lord.

I was shocked that there is absolutely no social distancing and no mask mandate enforced. Entire families were waking in to the theatre unmasked. This isn’t a review to discuss the masking mandate but rather that my family of 5 felt cheated that we were promised one experience and got another. We asked for a refund and questioned the customer service staff about what we saw. They said there is a mask mandate but they aren’t enforcing it. When we asked about the seating arrangement with no distancing they shrugged. If you’re ok with that, go to the theatre. If you’re not then be warned. Sight and Sound theatre put their greed first.

While I'm disappointed to hear what the Branson location did, I can attest that S and S in Lancaster absolutely did open last year. But they didn't open until summer (I don't recall exactly when) and it was with very limited seating and mask mandates because Wolf is a smart leader. Sidenote that I'm currently obsessed with his lieutenant gov'r, Fetterman.

Anyways...I can only give a wild guess that if PA didn't have a Dem gov'r, they absolutely would have opened as normal with no precautions. Which just makes me more and more confident that I'm glad I never worked there. I may be person of faith, but I don't care how "nice" these people are to your face, them being able to get away with not hiring/firing LGBTQ people before June's S.C. court decision and now knowing that Branson has been proceeding as normal in a pandemic infuriates me. What I will give the Lancaster location credit for is willingness to pivot to virtual for the time being. They did a live stream showing of Esther right around when they reopened with a few encores and I believe it went extremely well. They also have made almost their entire show catalogue available on their own streaming site. Frankly this is a company that is rolling in money so they can do distancing measures without much issue. I'm not saying they didn't lose a lot of money, every arts organization did, but they proceeded with distancing and masks, and they have heavily advertised their streaming to make for lost funds. It's just disappointing to know that the Lancaster location would absolutely have proceeded as normal if they were allowed.
