Thanks! I wasn't sure about this one but for $25 I think I'll see it!

It sounds dreadful to me! Clowns and mimes and snowstorms, beach balls? Is this the "Best of Broadway"? Yikes!

Actually it seems more along the lines of Cirque Du Soleil or something like that. I really enjoyed Rain when that was here. That was not what you would normally expect from Broadway either. I have heard good things about Slava's Snowshow though. I like shows that think outside the box.

I saw the show yesterday matinee.

There are no words for how astounding this theatrical experience is. Maybe it's because I have a profound respect for the art of clowning and its discipline. Maybe it was the direct and playful interaction with the audience. Maybe it was the stunning visual and human effects or booming music. Or the atmosphere of the room. Or seeing adults metamorphasize into children as young as the ones in the room.

But this show as utterly beautiful. San Francisco has a REAL TREAT and you MUST see this show before it moves on to Mexico. The talent is thrilling.

WORD OF ADVICE: Do NOT buy tickets higher than $25. NOT because the show's not worth it.... but because there is NO OTHER way to experience this show than in the first 3 rows. There is $25 cash only rush tickets 2 hours before each show. DO IT! DO IT NOW! This show is brilliant and there is no other way to see it than in the front rows... I almost felt bad for the people in the far-orch or mezz/balc because you've got BE there to love it.

Eugene, I'm glad that you had a great time at Snowshow, but if a show can only be enjoyed from within first three rows (in a regular size theatre), that's not a good show, period. (no I haven't seen it or am going to)

May I ask you a question? If you are still sitting the same seat you sat yesterday, and paid the full price (say $90) instead of $25, do you still think you enjoyed as much? Or would you expect more for $90?

I was at the 4/22 matinee show too. EugLoven, were you sitting dead center? I was in row B.

Lite2Shine, I think what EugLoven meant was the first 3 rows are involved the most in the audience interaction parts of the show.
For a show like Slava, it's more enjoyable if you play along. It's like when you attend a rock concert. The people in front are more active dancing and moshing.

How familiar are you with "popular theatre," meaning theatre made for the populous? Like clowning, mime, carnivale, puppetry, and/or cabaret?

Because these theatre types are made for the people, they are conceived NOT for the elite high-paying tickets, but instead for the "people" who cannot afford theatre. Slava's clown acts began in Russia years ago on the streets, portable theatre, enjoyed by the people who were a hair's-breath away from the action. The audience is as much a part of the show as the actors. There is NO show without interaction with the audience.

This kind of show is MEANT to be seen up-close. I'm sure it is more of the producer's goals (than Slava's) to have this as a high-priced show for profit. Clowns do not do what they do for money... and you can see that in the actor's faces.

Yes, I'd have enjoyed the show just as much at full price instead of $25 cash. That is besides the point. If you are not familiar with popular theatre in its popular form, then do not see this show. For this is theatre that has respect before it is seen. If you don't respect it before coming in, then don't see it.

Eugene, I adimit, I'm not THAT familiar with "popular theatre" but I have seen clowning, puppet and cabaret acts before, and enjoy the experience.

As I said, I'm not going to see the show or I want to at this venue. I guess I should have said that it's the producers' fault to bring this show to Curran, if it has to be appreciated in an intimate venue. Certainly it should not belong to Best of Broadway subscription, especially when you describe it as "they are conceived NOT for the elite high-paying tickets, but instead for the "people" who cannot afford theatre." It would be a disrespect to both actors (clowns) and the audience (subscribers). On off-broadway, it's running at a much smaller venue (less than 400 seating?), so I'd say it's a crime to bring it to a 1600 seating theatre in SF.

It's at the Golden Gate Theatre. The smallest Best of Broadway venue. I'm sure it'd have been great at the Post Street Theatre (SF's Off-Bway house) but that's currently taken.

Also, (only because I'm anal-retentive) you should be using the word "nor" in your sentences... not "or."

It's been a while since I've been to the Golden Gate, and maybe you are correct, but I always thought the Curran seemed smaller....
