This has been rumored here and there. I came across this today when I did a search. Today's news in little Midland, Texas:

Posted: 6/10/05 at 11:55amwait, it says that the person directing is 20 years old? And then Betty goes on to talk about it, so I guess it's not a misprint. Eeek, 20? That's kind of cool though. More power to Mr. Tony Georges, whoever you are.

Or really smart business savvy. That article says he was able to incite investors to raise 2 million dollars to pay for the summer series (4 shows). That's pretty amazing. Hopefully he'll have the artistic vision to be able to make these productions as great as his casts.
I also hope the shows find an audience. This is their "inaugural" season, I doubt he'll be able to pull together that kind of money next year if the shows play to empty houses. Great story. I definitely wish them all the best of luck.

Posted: 6/10/05 at 12:18pmWhere ARE they getting an audience? The town is so small and the theate seats 1000 according to the people in the box office. Out of curiosty, I called the box office to ask if I could still get tickets to the evening performance of Beauty and the Beast tonigh, and they said that there were only a few seats left on the far back sides. So, people are coming, whoever they are.

Posted: 6/10/05 at 1:18pmOdessa is a Texas town of about 92,000 people. I'm origianlly from a Southern town smaller than that, and the local theatre there never had trouble filling a venue that seated 700 people. Who says theatre is dead?
