Posted: 10/13/10 at 9:31pmFor all you A Little Night Music fans, "Smiles of a Summer Night" comes on right around now on TCM. I've never seen it so I might have to watch it for a while. Better than the Glenn Close "South Pacific" that's on the Ovation network. Enjoy if you watch it!

On second thought, I don't think I'll make it long with the subtitles.
The Fredrik in this movie makes me miss the handsomeness of Alexander Hanson.

Oh for crap's sake.
Watch the goddam Ingmar Bergman movie. A little subtitle won't kill you.
Sheesh...

Posted: 10/13/10 at 11:30pmI know, I know. It seems shallow and ignorant, but it just wasn't a subtitle kind of night for me. I'm sure I'll revisit it eventually.

Gorgeous film, terrific performances from everyone.
But what I admire most is that Sondheim and Wheeler took a 20-year-old, non-mainstream, unfamous film and adapted it into an entirely different, equally (or more) gorgeous animal.
Contrast with hacks who take recent famous films and just add a few songs (Shrek, High Fidelity, 9 to 5, Wedding Singer, and probably Priscilla and Sister Act, among many others).
