Posted: 11/21/03 at 12:57pmIs this musical as good as YAGMCB? Ive heard "Clouds" And "Edgar Allen Poe" because we were assigned those 2 songs for our group number but, our vocal performance teacher decided he might want us to do it full out... is it any good? And does anyone know how long ago this show was in NYC?

Posted: 11/21/03 at 1:20pmI've done SNOOPY! twice. I don't think it's as good book-wise as CB (..as if CB is a stellar example of book writing, huh?), but it does have a serviceable score at times. "Poor Sweet Baby" is a good number. "Big Bow Wow", however, is a cheap rip-off of "Suppertime".

Posted: 11/21/03 at 9:53pmI think the score is better than YAGMCB--and I do adore the latter. They are both fun. I've played Linus in both. =) YAGMCB probably does have a better book--but both are comic strips strung together--which is excellent.

Posted: 11/23/03 at 2:45amI've directed both. The score of Snoopy is mostly very good. "Poor Sweet Baby" should find its way to more recordings. I'd love to hear Bernadette Peters do it. The finale, "Just one Person" had the audience and the cast sobbing every night. The revival {B D Wong played Linus) supposedly made some improvements in the music, but I found the cast album a bit junky. But the book is unbelievably bad. When I directed it at a high school {disclaimer: I'm making this up; we didn't really do what I'm about to say. Much.) we threw the book out and spent weeks constructing a new one from original "Peanuts" strips. The show was a huge success, but I would never perform it without reworking the book. Not that we did.
