I know, I should probably know this, and No, it isn;t in the FAQ area, so for someone who has never been to a reading, what exactly is it? Do they actually perform the show, or do they just do little snippets to get their play produced?

just curious, thanks

They just sit and read through the whole show.

They are a few different types of readings.
From going off what ive done they are Table Readings when the cast sit around and read through the script and sing through the score with just a piano.

A staged reading is pretty much a Workshop ,normally for backers to come and see the show where bits of the show are acted out(the rest you just stand in a line and sing and read the script)

The final reading(final workshop)is the whole thing acted out normally in a large studio and this is normally done so the director, writter etc can see what the show looks like and get an idea of what needs to be changed etc before main rehearsals start(they always end up changing it later anyway grrrrrr)

Hope that helped

staged readings are where the director gives the actors minimul movement for the show and the actors still have the scripts in their hands. Sometimes, the actors (if they want) memorize a little bit of it so that it is easier to move.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

An INDUSTRY WORKSHOP means they've invited people from the theatre community. Producers, backers, angels, other people who might be interested in investing or participating, etc. It is never open to the public.

I recently saw a reading of "... men" and spoke with the cast(Cheyenne Jackson, Barrett Foa, Alan Cumming, and more) afterwards and they said that they received the script to look over it like an hour before the show began. It's amazing to see how quickly they can assume the character that they are portraying.

so being in these workshops, they could be positive contenders for roles? has there been anymore news about cheyenne being in the little mermaid next year?
