SOME LIKE IT HOT, the laugh-from-start-to-finish Comedy is on TCM Tonight, 8:00 PM, EST.


If you don't have any other plans, I STRONGLY urge you to check it out!


For those unfamiliar it stars Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis--and it has been argued that the film contains all three finest's performances to be captured on cellouid.

Of course ME, I saw a terrific high school production of it at the FL state Thespian competition
Some of those kids should have been on a Broadway stage THAT NIGHT (especially Daphne)

SUGAR was one of those "in trouble" shows--I think a lot of people enjoyed the story more than the songs. (I don't believe any real hits emerged from the musical.)

They opened the Leading Ladies of Broadway PBS special with "The Beauty That Drives a Man Mad"
But yes, the score in general is pretty weak, especially since the title character doesn't ever really get a showstopper

Too true. At least Elaine Joyce had her own "take" on the part and didn't merely imitate Marilyn Monroe.

Believe it or not, in 1964 there was an unauthorized TURKISH remake--FISTIK GIBI MASALLAH--which loosely translates to "My God, She's Cute".

Director Billy Wilder's original choice for the role of Sugar was Mitzi Gaynor, not Marilyn Monroe, and Danny Kaye and Bob Hope were to be the two male leads...
