Which is the proper lyric for this song?
Sadly she realized she'd left him behind
And sadder than that she knew (she or he?) wouldn't even mind
I've heard it both ways by various different performers, but my sheet music says "she". It kind of changes the meaning of the entire line depending on which one you use, so I was wondering how the lyricist(s) actually wrote it.

I believe it's "he" in both the Broadway and the Danish tour (major productions that included that lyric) versions, although in the 2003 benefit, I think Sutton sings "she." I can double check for you, though. :)
ETA: Apparently, it's actually "he" in the benefit version as well. Perhaps your sheet music has a misprint... ?

Thanks, I appreciate it. Just to double check my sheet music lyrics, where can I find the "official" lyrics?

I'm not entirely sure. I'd assume that any cast recordings that feature the song (e.g. OBC and Danish tour, NOT concept) would have liner notes with the lyrics, but since I downloaded the songs, I'm not positive that they include the lyrics.
Good luck!
I always thought it was he...

I have always heard it as/sung it as HE... Like she knew HE wouldn't mind she'd left... Since Florence leaves Freddy.
I was pretty sure it was he.

Wait. I thought Sutton played Svetlana, no? Or am I wrong in assuming most of the song she's singing about herself in the the third person. Now I'm REALLY confused.

Yes, exactly. When Florence sings Someone Else's Story (OBC), though, I suppose she could sing "she wouldn't even mind" and it would make sense in a way -- as in, she's realizing that she wouldn't even mind that she's without Freddie. However, yes, OBC Florence does indeed sing "he."
However, Svetlana sings the song in the later versions of the show, and it really wouldn't make any sense whatsoever to have her sing that "she wouldn't even mind" -- she obviously does mind quite a bit about her disappearing relationship with Anatoly.
Okay. Now it's beginning to make some more sense. My sheet music says "FLORENCE" at the top. So, in that case, the "she" would make sense in context?

In context, it would make sense, as Florence is realizing that she doesn't need Freddie -- although, it would make just as much sense as Florence singing "he," as she doesn't feel that Freddie cares about her either.
However, just FYI, Judy Kuhn (OBC Florence) does indeed sing "HE wouldn't even mind." :)
Bah. I give up. I'll just sing "he" since it seems to make more sense to me. Thanks for all your help. :)

Sorry, I hope that I didn't confuse you too much. Keeping all of the versions straight is certainly confusing at times. :)
Going with "he" is probably your safest bet anyway.
