The Gershwin Theatre, pre-Wicked (2003) hasn't had an original musical production since 1993 (The Red Shoes).
The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, pre-Titanic (1997) hasn't had an original musical production since 1988 (The Gospel at Colonus).
The Al Hirshfield Theatre, pre-Sweet Smell of Success (2002) hasn't had an original musical production since Grand Hotel (1989).
*note, I excluded plays, special shows, and limited engagements/shows with 25 performances or less.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
