It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that certain shows capture the interest of the people on this board more than others. How many threads are there for WICKED and TABOO? Now that Nathan and Matthew are returning to THE PRODUCERS, we have a whole smattering of threads concerning that. However, theatrical offerings like THE VIOLET HOUR, WONDERFUL TOWN, and NEVER GONNA DANCE are virtually ignored by this group.
I wonder why this is so?

NEVER GONNA DANCE has had limited buzz because the two leads are unknown, and Marian Mazzie has not captured the imagination of most of the posters here. Also, not many people here seem to know who Jerome Kern is.
VIOLET HOUR does not feature naked male office workers, and a little Mario Cantone goes a long way. I was pleased to note that Miuchael Feingold cited the rare Rene Clair film IT HAPPENED TOMORROW as an unacknowleged source for the play.
WONDERFUL TOWN - Apply the Mazzie rule to Donna Murphy.

With any luck, the two previewing musicals, Wonderful Town and Never Gonna Dance, will zip in under the radar and miss getting hit with vegetables from indiscrimiate posters who want to snipe that one of them doesn't have any scenery and the other doesn't have any stars.
With any luck at all both musicals will make it to opening night without limping under a lot of pre-opening luggage which would include the NY Post and its hatchet-people.
As for the plays, they don't have the sex appeal of a musical although Henry IV opening tomorrow night is a real nice production, except I wish I had read the production notes before I watched it rather than afterwards.

I for one, on my way to see Wicked Saturday will be trying to get tickets for these shows. Sometimes, I see them later than other people on the board because I wait for better seats.

I am looking forward to a repeat on WONDERFUL TOWN, and to NEVER GONNA DANCE.
VIOLET HOUR doesn't appeal to me, so I'll sit that one out.
Those of us with a certain refined level of taste are posting on this thread so I couldn't resist joining you lovely bunch of bananas.
Cheers, Bulldog!

I am extremely excited about "Never Gonna Dance", I think it will be GREAT! I am also excited about Wonderful Town.....People will begin to notice, as the positive word-of-mouth spreads. I think "Never Gonna Dance", is an ideal example of an original CLASSY Broadway show.....Sometimes a simple (Well-Crafted) production is better!
See Ya!

I'd imaging that a contributing factor to the phenomenon that Dollypop described is that it is much easier for someone to post about Taboo, Rosie, Wicked, Idina, etc without actually having seen the show. There is a level of familiarity to all of them to a lot of the younger (often, but not exclusively) contributors to this board.
It's much more difficult to sustain a lengthy exchange about something like The Violet Hour with someone who hasn't seen it...unless, of course, one of the actors has a meltdown...then that provides fodder for a day or two.
