This may be a stupid question but is this song upbeat? I can't really tell.
Hmmm - good question....Part of the problem is it's so intertwined with "I Don't Remember You" in my mind that I often forget which part goes to which song -- but both are great...
This is an audition piece of mine and yes it is a ballad

hum...ok. the only reason i ask is i have had some people say ballad, some say upbeat. i want to use it for college auditions but i don't know if it is my ballad or my upbeat.
it does seem upbeat a little but the words are more ballad. dilemma.

I've worked on this song a lot in a class. I've also performed it- it is most def a ballad to me. In the context of the show "Woman of the Year," and reading the lyrics out- it doesn't make a lot of sense for it to be "upbeat." In my personal opinion the only reason it could maybe be made more uptempo would be by having the emotion and drive behind it. Josh Young covers it on his CD and its a ballad- its up on itunes. That could be some help.
Kander and Ebb have written this song several times:
I DON'T REMEMBER YOU
DEAR ONE
They are all saying: I'm feeling something, but If don't acknoweldge it, maybe I can pretend it isn't happnening.
No other team has done as often or better than K&E
Isn't I Don't Care Much kind of the same thing...?
