I kept feeling with the Time Dragon that they spent a TON of money for the dragon in an earlier version of the show and cut the reference to it, but didn't want to scrap all the money they put into the dragon, so they left it in the set.
As far as Son of a Witch is concerned, I don't want to say too much because I'm sure many of you will read it when it's released in a few weeks. I completed reading the Advanced Reader's Copy of the book about 6 weeks ago and really enjoyed it. The only way it could be adapted into a musical is if it's TOTALLY separate from the Wicked musical, or they take extreme liberties with how they adapt the material. Yes, in Wicked the book, Elphie and Fiyero both die and to try to take Son of a Witch and make it into a sequel of the Wicked musical just wouldn't work. Besides, the material itself just doesn't (IMO) lend itself to musical adaptation. The book (without spoiling the plot) deals with Liir trying to find Nor and trying to determine if he is indeed the "Son Of A Witch." I really like how Gregory Maguire handles both of those plot points.

It's too bad people have no idea what the significance of the time clock dragon in the story (if they havent read the book.)
Although, i think people enjoy it mostly for the added spectacle.
