"Sony BMG Masterworks will be releasing a box set of of Sondheim's works this September, including 37 previously unreleased tracks"
Exciting! Any guesses as to what the unreleased material could be?
I bet the recordings from the proposed 'Into the Woods' movie will be in it. I remember reading (I believe during the Sondheim chat thing) that he said some tracks were recorded, and he hopes that people will eventually hear them. Now would be a great chance.

What I would kill for is a demo of 'Happily Ever After'!
You have to email your questions at the address, DON'T POST THEM IN THE COMMENTS OF THE ARTICLE. Someone's going to have to tell Sirius Black.
I'm hoping for songs from unreleased or unfinished musicals. Sunset Boulevard? Mary Poppins? High Tor?
Those would be great! Maybe their planning on releasing songs from certain backer's auditions?

This is good news indeed!!! It was announced in March 2006 that such a box set would be released. Tracks for the then-announced box set include songs from most of the original cast recordings of Sondheim's musicals as well as an abundance of private demo recordings, songs written for movies and television, as well as incidental music from plays, among others. And, yes, a 3:55 archival recording of "Happily Ever After" is listed!

Follies85, THANK YOU for making my night.
I am giddy! ![]()
Having heard the audio from the opening night of Sweeney Todd the other day, one hopes that they use the live recording of "A Little Priest". To be in the theatre that would have been magical.

The appreciative and rapturous applause in that audio is SO heartening because you can feel as if you're sitting in the seat and everyone surrounding you is more than excited to be there. If they used that kind of track would it be possible to clean up some of the sounds that were caused by the recording device or is that a permanent fixture?
I have no idea if they can clean it up or not, but out of every live audio i have ever heard. The opening night of Sweeney is stunning, the audience reaction is over whelming, what a joy it would have been to be there that night.
Why can't They commerically release soundboards? They aren't really bootlegs. People connected to the production make them, don't they?
And, ach! I would die for that Sweeney soundboard! If anybody's interested in some sort of trade for it, PM me.
Fierce.

Meeeee too.
I can't believe I said "Ach." The German in me is coming out.

Great News!
That site is often quiet but when it does get an exclusive it is always a good one and usually months before any of the mainstream sites (such as this one) get it.
I'm not jumping up and down with joy, but there is some cool stuff.
Oh no, now I have to spend money.
I've heard that version of Sondheim singing Happily Ever After and it will be worth buying the boxed set for that alone.
