I desperately wish I'd been able to hear Raul Esparza sing "Happily Ever After" at the Dramatists' Guild Awards this year. I love the song -- not as much as "Being Alive," but I'm utterly fascinated with it as an end to Bobby's story.
"Mama's Talkin' Soft" was cut out of town. The number was supposed to weave in and out of "Small World", with Baby June and Baby Louise watching Rose talking to Herbie. It was supposed to represent the girls awareness of their mother's tactics. However, with the way it was staged, it turned out it couldn't be done. Robbins staged it so that the two young actresses were up on a fly of some sort, and the two young girls were terrified and refused to go on it. The number was then cut.

I like the idea, I'm sure if they had really wanted to make it work it would have...
and when we mention Prince before with Sweeney censorship (XD) I remember Sondheim saying the original script of Follies it's predecessor included a scene where young buddy and young phyllis found sally and ben up in one of the theater offices doing it. Hal cut it; so while that isn't as bad as a man flagellating himself, he does have limits.

TO be fair he did show onstage defecation in Kiss--so his limits are few
The sex scene in Follies I think was rightly cut (early on of course before it even got to a close to presentable stage) it just doens't match the mood of the show

Well I'm sure that was before the show was more about the reunion, back when it was a mystery and each character had a reason for killing someone else.
Follies right now is my favorite musical, it alternates with Night Music depending on my mood.

So does anyone know about the odd song order of COmpany out of town?
