Sondheim Special

Does anyone know anything about a special on Sondheim that included Tony Randall, Beth Howland, Richard Chamberlain, Tony Roberts, Bernadette Peters and more? Was it part of a Tonys telecast or a special on its own?

It was part of the Tony Awards telecast that aired in 1984 (the dueling year of Sunday in the Park and La Cage).

They did extensive, star-studded, medley tributes to Sondheim, Herman, and Kander & Ebb. They were pretty fantastic, too.

This truly was the best Tony telecast ever when you think about all the numbers they did in those tributes, plus the OBCs of La Cage and Sunday int he Park performing. (And I believe Kander & Ebb's new show was The Rink).
