I was wondering if you guy could help me out. A theatre in dallas will be doing aida as part of their season nextyear and i plan audtioning, but i am not sure what song i should sing. I am a better dancer than i am singer. I am 2nd tenor without a big range so i need a song thats not to difficult, but something that will allow me to show my singing abilty and something that fits with the show. I hope you guys are able to help me out. thank!!! :)
what do you guys think about Endless Night from the Lion King??

I have to assume that doing anything from Wicked right now would be quite annoying to casting directors.
Especially a show like Aida where every other girl is probably going to be trying to screech out Defying Gravity.
One song that is under performed and is relatively easy to sing that I audition with is "Need to Know" from Weird Romance. It's a great character piece. I am not sure that it's in the same style as music from Aida, but it'd probably work as I assume you are audition for a chorus part and not a Radames.
In general, I've found that casting directors like songs that are more obscure and interesting than they same old staple numbers.

i did aida... great musical
you're a second tenor... look up the song called "The Mason" from the musical "Working". it's an amazing song and in the same pitch as Radames as well.

what show is on the streets of dublin from?? thanks :)
I am actually auditioning for a production of this show in a month and have been wracking my brain for a song as well. I'm going out for Amneris. All the contemporary pop-rock songs that come to mind are kind of a no-no, so I'm having a problem picking a suitable song that I like. I'm open to suggestions if anyones willing to offer them --and having lurked here for a long time, I have no doubt some are willing to offer them... whether or not asked

What about "He Lives in You" from the Lion King? Also Elton John.

on the streets of dublin is from a man of no importance.
but i think lost in the wilderness is your best bet.
as for illegally blondish... you could do stranger to the rain from children of eden or still hurting from the last 5 years (or really any song from that show that cathy sings...) or come to your senses from tick, tick... boom!
those are my top three suggestions for anyone wanting to play amneris.
No Last 5 Years. Your accompanist will loathe your guts. Unless it's acapella. Then go for it.

still hurting is not hard for accompanists.
Ooo... "Come to Your Senses"! I love that song! I think I will go with that.

legally blondish- check out Small Town Girl from Debbie Does Dallas.
Don't do Streets of Dublin. The director of Aida just directed Man of No Importance for the same theater last season.
