I remember seeing a thread like this, but when I searched for it, I couldn't find it. So what are some songs that seem to fit your voice perfectly?
From the Hair Actor's Fund Recording:
Hair, Going Down
From Avenue Q:
Anything of Princeton/Rod's, especially Purpose
From L5Y:
Movin' On, Shiksa Goddess
From 25th Annual:
I'm not that smart, MUE
RENT:
Anything Mark, but I sometimes feel the need to do Roger, which works out too.
hmm. this is a hard one...
i'd have to say the part christine sings in 'love is my legs' (from DRS).
i dunno...then i guess 'out tonight' and 'another day' (mimi's part) from rent. it's deff. not perfect...but it's one of those songs you just feel like belting out. =)
"Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat" From Guys and Dolls
Anything the Beadle sings in Sweeney Todd (not the revival where they changed keys...but I still love them)
Even though I'm a guy, when I sing Scott Allen's "Never Never Land" (the solo version a la Stephanie Block) it just feels...right.
Also:
-All of Princeton/Rod's songs in Avenue Q
-All of Hedwig's songs in Hedwig
-"I Can do That" from ACL
-"Downtown (Skid Row)" (Seymour's part) from Little Shop
-All of Marilyn's parts in Taboo
--anything Millie sings in "Throughly Modern Millie" (especially "Forget About the Boy" and "Not for the Life of Me")
--any of the female songs in "Chicago"
--all of Sally's songs in "Cabaret"
--any of Kate Monster's material in "Avenue Q"
These are all songs that just feel good when I sing them. Kander and Ebb in particular feels great in my voice.
I'm going to preface this with the fact that my singing only sounds alright to me...
Anything Kate Monster.
Someday from Wedding Singer
Make Him Mine and Look At Me from The Witches of Eastwick
There are a couple of guys songs which I quite like singing too, but generally I'll attempt anything when I'm in my room on my own. I've recorded myself singine on a couple of occasions, and whilst I wouldn't say I was tone deaf, I'm unable to hold to a tune without someone playing/singing the notes alongside me, and my range is not huge.
I really wish I could sing, but hey you can't have everything!
JJoey076 your song list is almost such a carbon copy of mine I didn't even bother to post my own list. Lol. Most have quite simliar voices.
For me...
Song of Me-Starting Here, Starting Now.
Much More-The Fanasticks. Not surprising, since it's like the sister song to the Song of Me.
And I really think those are it. The only songs I've just been able to sing without really working on.
"Not While I'm Around" fits the innocence in my voice.

Just about anything that Michael Cerveris has sung from Tommy to Sweeney Todd. I seem to be very compatiable with his voice.
Also, Cry for Me, December 1963,(Oh What A Night), My Eyes Adored You, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, and Fallen Angel from Jersey Boys. Everything else can hurt my throat and the ears of the people around me.
Anything from the L5Ys especially moving to fast and Skiskas Goddess (sp)....
Aida- Elaborate Lives, Fortune Favors the Brave
Music of the Night
Past the Point of No Return
Maria
Somethings Coming
Dancing Through Life
Skid Row
Creation of Man

I'm bloody great at that, shame I can't do Happy Birthday justice... he he!
hmmm... in my natural voice:
Albert's songs in Bye Bye Birdie
Horton's songs in Seussical
Mike's songs in Working
Just on the top of my head:
Jesus Christ Superstar
Anything sung by Judas and/or Jesus

"Going Down"
"I Got Life"

Man of No Importance
"Streets of Dublin"
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Anything sung by Hedwig

Provided it is in the 'usual' key that is used before ball games and the opening performance of the NY City Opera for instance, the song that I can sing effortlessly is:
"The Star Spangled Banner".
Isn't that weird?
But I can nail every note as clear as a bell without having to resort to any vocal tricks at all.
Consequently I love singing it. Others around me, often total strangers, gain courage from somebody singing out this notoriously rangy song and covering up their mistakes, so they like me there too.
