Hey there,
I am looking for songs which deal about or with philosophy. I already have "My new philosophy" but do you know some more?
Most welcome would be a duett for a soprano and bass/baritone.
Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany.

Basses are rare in musicals nowadays.
Take something from Candide, like "Make our Garden grow" will probably fit your criteria, I think that's baritone/soprano.
That's something that even ought to be known in good ole Germany
Not a duet, but the Prologue from GODSPELL is essentially philosophers arguing. How many people do you have in the cast?

Well okay, I know Candide but it never grabbed my interest. But I will have a look.
We are only two. Its for a one-night event. A show mixed with lyrics, acts, songs. I am also thankful for suggestions for baritone alone or duets for (high)baritone and (mezzo)soprano. We are both a bit flexible.

Has it got to be actually "dealing with philosophy" or would it be enough to be just highly philosophical in it's thoughts without explicitely referring to the word "philosophy"?
"Oh, Diogenes" from Rodgers & Hart's "Boys From Syracuse" (Diogenes was a Greek philosopher).
"Life Is" from Kander & Ebb's "Zorba" which expresses Zorba's philosophy of life.

Jeff Blumenkrantz has a song called "The Philospoher," a setting og the Edna St. Vincent Millay poem. The link is below if you want to hear it.

And now for something completely different...
How about the "Philosopher's Drinking Song" from Monty Python's Flying Circus?
Emanuel Kant was a real pissant who was very rarely stable
Heidegger, Heidegger was a ballsy beggar who could drink you under the table...
et cetera, et cetera, as it lists the drinking habits of various philosophers...
No one's talked about "My New Philosophy" from Charlie Brown.
It's hilarious!

That was in the first post.
I think that songs can be interpreted philosophically, maybe something from See What I Wanna See.

@Franklin
It doesn't need to refer directly to the word philosophy. Everything which seems to fit is welcome.

lol, well, Kant, Nietzsche and Schopenhauer are being mentioned in "Listen to your Heart" from Young Frankenstein as I just recall.
But seriously, a lot of songs from "Sunday" and "Into the Woods" go quite a philosophical path, try those!
Not to mention the original version of Sondheim's "The Frogs", particularly the song "It's only a Play".
Random and OT, but any clue how to pull the podcast into iTunes?
