From the BWW news desk:
"Brooklyn The Musical is pleased to announce a unique relationship with Movie Tunes LLC that will bring the music of Brooklyn The Musical into the top 200 markets across the country through July 21, 2005.
Songs from the live, original Broadway cast recording, including “Once Upon A Time” and “Streetsinger” will be spun over 9.4 million times in movie theatres across the country, reaching over 200 million captive moviegoers. The Brooklyn The Musical music video will be broadcast on over 2,600 screens in the top 25 markets, reaching over 26 million people."
One question...WHY????

I knew there was a reason I didn't go to movies.
Brooklyn: Making the pre-show experience that much worse.
Hey -- good material or not -- its a VERY smart move. You gotta admire the tenacity of the producers of BROOKLYN. And of all the stuff on Broadway right now, you have to admit that those songs from BROOKLYN are a lot closer to the stuff that actually gets radio play...

Hasn't the movie-going public suffered enough....
First, "Catwoman", now this!
wait i'm confused, the songs will be played before a movie starts? Which movies?
Actually...i'm sure Brooklyn music will be better than the crap they play on Movie tunes already...
They play some WEIRD **** right now...

I don't think they say which movies- it's not like a trailer reel that's attached to a certain film; it's the music that's played before the trailer reel. So it's attached to certain theaters rather than certain movies. Said theaters are in "major music markets," so I'm guessing the NYC area will be subject to this.
I'm guessing it's going to be like the radio clips most theatres play before the theatrical trailers start
WOOOHOOO!
I'M SO HAPPY FOR THEM!!
Throwing good money after bad.
i agree that good music or not, this is an excellent marketing plan. people in movie theaters outside of NY won't know what you or I think about BKLYN and will just remember hearing the song before some movie. And the next time their in nyc and are looking for a show to see they'll recognize the name and will go see the show. or at least, i'm sure thats the theory behind it all. i mean, reaching over 26 million people... if even a quarter of those people make it to nyc and see the show...

This is an excellent marketing idea except for one thing.
Why wasn't this done in the fall? The grosses now are sagging way below what they need to be, and the audience has seen the show and moved on.
Great idea. Lousy timing.

I have to agree... it is a great marketing ploy...It played prior to Kingdom Of Heaven last friday down here in miami... I went to see brooklyn with a friend of mine who was born and raised in Brooklyn (but not a "musical" person, if you will), while i followed the story well enough i feel she may have taken much more than i did out from the show, many of the references were lost on me... but then again i saw Dames at Sea and loved if for the satirical spoof it was and all she said was "i dunno it was like a small scale 42nd street" (oh well)...
In any case, i digress, this should be done with more musicals.. imagine if DRS were to reach theatre audiences on a large scale or even Dracula in its day ( i dont care what this board says about dracula, i loved it! I feel that if dracula had reached the populace on a larger scale via theatre (due it its very showy and movie like feel) it would have been much better off...just my 2 cents...

Oh my god, this show is going to be the next Cats- the show that runs forever just because audiences have heard of it back in Boise, Idaho come in hoards to NYC. Why can't good shows use marketing strategies like this?
Oh lord! Do you mean to tell me that there is a possibility I will get my eardrums blown out by the ear piercing shrieks of one Eden Espinosa while I'm calmly munching on my popcorn waiting for the main feature to start?!! That's enough to keep me away from the movies!!
While I think this is a good move by the BKLYN producers, I too think that going to the movies and having to sit through commercials and movietunes is already annoying (and yes, movietunes plays some weird stuff.)
Great idea! Hopefully they'll do this with more shows. Shame it has to start with Brooklyn. It just might HURT sales!
I'm going to stop going to the movies...

I am only vaguely surprised that Plum thought the exact same thing after reading the press release as me.

I was at the Lowes Theatre in Pittsburgh and I suddenly heard Once Upon... playing in the background as I purchased my tickets!!!!!!!!!!!! This message board explains everything.
qu'est-ce que le point?
This show was sour from the start. I guess I'll have to go on a movie hiatus for the next three years. (not like there's anything worth seeing anyway...)
