Are there some Broadway songs out there that you just don't like (or like a little), but listen to for one part, and you skip right to that part just to hear it?

Example:

"Wonderful" - Wicked (just to hear Idina and that little dance break)

"We like to snark around here. Sometimes we actually talk about theater...but we try not to let that get in our way." - dramamama611

"Thank Goodness" speed upto Glinda's section, that starts "I couldn't be happier, simply couldn't be happier...well, not simply..." and basically just to hear "there are bridges you cross you didn't know you crossed until you've crossed"

That's exactly what I do with that song.

"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."

hey -sorry to diverge in a sense, but VH1 - recently bashed Jim Steinman - does anyone else LOVE "Tonight is What It means to be Young" from Streets of Fire? if you haven't heard it - you must!

In "I wish I could go back to college" I skip to the perfect harmony when they say, "sitting in the computer lab...."

I love Wicked, but I think "Dancing Through Life" is one of the crappiest songs I've ever heard. However, my favorite part of the whole score comes in--you guessed it--"Dancing Through Life," when Kristin gives Idina the hat. "You deserve each other, this hat and you..." It cracks me up every time.

This one is from "Off Broadway" but it just happens to be in my car CD player right now. I really like the cast recording of Batboy but I do skip past things that I don't like as well as others. Right at the end of the show...buried in another piece...is a beautiful little duet between Meredith (Kaitlin Hopkins) and Dr. Parker (Sean McCourt)that they sing to each other just before they die. If I'm listening just for the music's sake, I always skip the rest of the song to get to that.

i too skip parts of dancing through life- i listen to the beginning through nessa's solo then fast forward all the way to boq's part at the end....the broadway on broadway(if they ever do this number on it) condensed version as i call it

I couldn't agree more about "Dancing Through Life", and I love that show. The first time I saw it I thought that song would never end. It just drags on and on - but the presentation of the hat is cool

I do the same thing with Thank Goodness. I only like "There are bridges you cross..."

On the "Little Shop of Horrors" recording, I skip through the beginning of "The Meek Shall Inherit" and listen to it starting with the part Hunter Foster starts singing in it.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

The entire "score" from AVENUE Q sucks but great part is when it ends.

In Little Shop I fast forward FEED ME, until it gets to the actual "feed me seymour" part.

In "The Ballad of Booth," from Assassins, the only part I like is when Booth sings, "Hunt me down, smear my name/ Say I did it for the fame/ What I did is kill the man who killed my country."

Victor Garber puts so much feeling into those words in the OOBC, I can't help but like them despite the general mediocrity of the song.

Plum , I have been hearing that song in my head all day and that is the only part I hear! I totally have to agree with you on that one. I like at the end of the song though, too. When the Balladeer is singing and then it ends with "Damn you, Booth!"

Britt, I heart your signature.

Okay, back to topic. Sorry for the interruption!

I agree with whoever posted about "Thank Goodness." I like to start where Glinda is singing alone.

I skip most of "Dancing Through Life" until I too, get to the part where Kristin sings" So here....out of the goodness of my heart...." I love the way she sings that...it kinda sounds soulful and with attitude.

Also skip a LOT of "Thank Goodness" until "The Bridges crossed" part, and then I skip some more to the very end "I couldn't be happier.....TODAAAAAAAAYYYYY........AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" LOL. I love that part. The last time I saw Kristin, she didn't interpolate the ending like she used to do a few months ago. It was very dissapointing. I love when she hit that E above High C at the end of the number. It always gave me chills.

Cheers,
The Balladeer

Re: Dancing Through Life

Am I the only one who likes Dancing Through Life? LOL. But I do do some fwding...I like when Norbert hits that 'when you're dancing...through...LIIIIFEEE!!!!'. And I like Norbert and Glinda singing "So we're perfect together, for to be forever dncing through life". And of course the hat part, and when Nessa says "Oh Boq! I think you're wonderful!"

Wait..did I just recap the whole song? I guess I just fwd the instrumental! hehe re: Songs that Suck But Have a Good Part

I always skip to Glinda giving Elphaba the hat and Nessa's solo, too. I also fast foward the beggining of La Vie Boheme sometimes to the 'We raise our glass/You bet your ass to...' That part just goes slowly.

i like the whole song but sometimes i like my short and sweet version (that and since i actually sing the fiyero part (auditioning for the national tour when it comes up) so its really easier that way)

she did that on friday and her eyes got REALLY wide. it was crazy.

she was like "todaaayyy...AhHhHh...AHHH!!!!!" and there was this universal gasp in the room.

I always skip through wonderful to hear idina say "it does sound wonderful"

and I always skip past madame morrible's part in Wizard and I....I'm so used to doing it, i can get it perfectly...right down to the little note before "did that really just happen?"

I always skip the opening of "Fantasies come true" too...I just wanna hear the singing.
