Now I do not know if there is a thread about this or not, but what are some songs you can think of that has a sudden half time feel or key change in the middle or near the end of the song. Some I can think of off the top of my are.

I know that is only five, but it is 3 AM here and my mind is bleh :) So if you can help me out here I am a big sucker for songs that suddenly break down.

I always like the way Roger ratchets it up in the "time flies" section in the middle of "One song, glory" in Rent. How the emotion just bursts out in that part of the song as the vocal line goes up--all rage, frustration, pain and hope at the same time.

Similarly, there is the emotional "breakdown" part in "Pity the child" from Chess that has the same effect. Philip Casnoff nailed that on the OBC.

I always though the key change at the end of "With You" from Ghost was pretty awesome and unexpected. (Yeah, I'm probably the only person who still listens to this recording).

The key change in the middle of Rainbow High from Evita is amazing. Especially if the singer builds up enough tension with the line ("I'm theirrrrrrrrrrrrr- SAVIOR").

I'm not sure if this counts as a breakdown, but that last verse/section of "You Can Be As Loud As the Hell You Want" from Avenue Q always gives me chills when Christmas Eve belts that one high note.

I'll Cover Your reprise from Rent. When the chorus joins Tom Collins, the song goes from poignant to insanely beautiful and emotional. One of the most thrilling moments I've ever witnessed on Broadway.
