Hi, I was watching "South Pacific" and I thinking that this play particularly relates to current world issues today. Who else thinks it can be related to Bush's presidency?
The song "Bloody Mary" is a perfect example of my argument. Bush is a great president!

I think the issues raised in South Pacific are just issues that turn up again and again. Unfortunately they are not a product of the bush administration. Otherwise they would get lost in a few years.

"You've got to be carefully taught" deals with every generation due to issues with color, sexual preference, etc.

I think Clint Eastwood rapes you has a very valid point there. Much of the social and political upheaval of the contemporary world is analogous with South Pacific. I think this, particularly that of race issues is illustrated in the song "Twin Soliloquies".

Don't judge Clint by his ridiculous name.

Well, it is obvious and well known with what issues "South pacific" got its Pulitzer Prize. And of course this still is an issue. But where is the news? It seems this is just a hidden topic on US-politics...

Nah Mount Franklin, I think you misunderstand what my intentions are, I passionately believe that all musicals, even if they are based on fiction, can be related to issues to day, and I am just trying to create a forum of discussion on an intelligent front.

Sorry if you disagree.re: 'South Pacific' - Underlying themes

Fair enough. I just had the feeling of being thrown into a political satire act re: 'South Pacific' - Underlying themes Anyhow. I like the show a lot.

Satire is a pre-eminent art form in today's world although I definitely do enjoy older satire, such as Dr Strangelove. Rock on Satire!

lol, don't get me wrong, I love satire. Just meant that I had the feeling that it was all meant differently. Anyhow, change of topic...

I unfortunately didn't have the chance, being German, but let's put it thus: I at least wouldn't have reelected this administration. But to each his/her own...

I voted for George Bush because I felt he upheld the sanctity of marriage and just couldn't vote for any other when I knew they would approve abortion, stem cell research and the murder of unborn children. I just couldn't stomach voting for anyone else with my moral and christian beliefs.

What qualms did you have about Bush and his policies?

Could you please fix up your spelling and grammar? It really is an eyesore and frankly I wonder why anyone should waste their time reading your comments when you don't even bother to spell correctly.

Hence: let's face it: in spite of it all, we all do like "South Pacific". Something in common...

I am merely contributing to the discussion about "South Pacific". I'm inclined to think that not only has Clint not seen it, he hasnt seen any Broadway musicals. Probably some punk kid in an internet cafe trying to start an immature argument.

oy, john_travoltas_willy, enough is enough, we probably should let the thread rest now.
