Are there any other Southerners out there who are constantly annoyed by poor Southern accents in plays and movies? I really don't know who is coaching some of these actors.
I'm not from the south but the really cheesy, stereotypical southern accents irk me quite a bit. In some cases, it's pretty much mocking a culture. Just like politically incorrect chinese accents or what have you.
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart.

Part of the problem is actors/coaches don't seem to know that there are many different types of a Southern accents. The majority of Southerners do not have a thick accent. Also, the genteel accent of Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind and Streetcar virtually no longer exsists. The dialect as a whole is rapidly disappearing. Having lived in Memphis for 20 years and now living in Savannah, GA, I more often notice the absence of a strong accent than a very noticeable one.
