hello all... so today i saw Spamalot (third show in three days! i am loving this)... so some comments about the Shubert...
I hated this theater... the balcony wasn't too bad but it was at a weird angle which made the view odd... and the seats were so terribly uncomfortable.. and the ushers were just mean and rude... and i've never understood.. why design a theater purposefully placing bars in front of where people would sit... and i saw that the people who sit in the rear orchestra have a really low ceiling so they only see half the stage... odd to me... oh well...
anyways... i can see why this show won best musical... i'm not saying that other shows deserved it (i think i've only seen like the other three nominated shows along with it) but i'm saying that i can see why it won.. it's a fun show... i love monty python and british humour and i thought it was great... i love the music and loved it more seeing it in context... the cast was top notch... so glad i got to see it with Chris Sieber and Christian Borle and Michael McGrath... they were hilarious... as were the others... the only weakness for me was Lauren Kennedy.... now i've seen her in other shows and i think she has a beautiful voice... but she seemed out of her element in this show... she seemd to be forcing the comedy instead of leting it happen... and she didn't quite know where the comedy was... it was weird... and her voice wasn't up to par... maybe i'm used to hearing the songs sung by Sara Ramirez who really took control of the songs... whereas Lauren was just bleh with them...
now questions... now i see that several cast members play several parts... but i see that the actor who played Lancelot also played the French Taunter... aren't they in the scene together? or did i miss something... i thought Lanceleot was being taunted by the french taunter along with the other knights... and wasn't he also Tim the Enchanter along with Lancelot in the scene with him?? or did i miss something again...
and to those who saw the show pre-broadway.... in the show the lady of the lake tell arthur that they did make it broadway and they've been there all along... what did they do in the pre-broadway when they weren't actually on broadway... and does anyone know what they do for the tour???
tomorrow... WICKED (i hope)

No, they aren't in the scene together. Steve Kazee (or whoever happens to be playing Lancelot at the time) gets changed right after Find Your Grail, while the rest of the knights are going in front of the man-operated turning backdrop. I think the only reason for that is so Lancelot can get changed. And then Lance is just missing for the French Taunter scene.
For the Tim the Enchanter scene, whoever's playing Lancelot does it with the Tim costume over his sparkly!gay Lancelot costume, and then when Tim exits, switches back to his tabard and inconspicuously joins the group for his "delicious garlic mayonnaise" line.
And I don't know what they did about the pre-Broadway tryout, but on the tour, they don't say "You've been on Broadway...", they say "You've been in a Broadway musical..." which I thought was a pretty easy way to get around it. And the Knights of Ni tell them they must "put on a Broadway musical", not "a musical on Broadway", and so on.

Posted: 7/1/06 at 11:34amThe pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago was under the auspices of a company called "Broadway in Chicago". So, they said "We've made it to Broadway... well, Broadway in Chicago, at least."
