Spamalot Cancellation Seats

I've been planning to do it for awhile now, and I'm finally going to try for cancellation seats for Spamalot tomorrow. I have no idea what time I should get to the box office. Is it better to go in the morning and wait before it opens, or several hours before show time?
Any guidance from folks who have done this before would be so very much appreciated. Tomorrow is my only shot.
Thanks!!

Frankly I'd get there FAR earlier than when the box office opens. I popped by the theatre one morning (BEFORE Spamalot won the Tony) to drop something off for a friend.... it couldn't have been more than 9:15am and there were already 50 people on the cancellation line at least.
I can only imagine what it's like now that the show won best musical.

Posted: 7/7/05 at 8:02ami went to the cancellation line on a friday, around 2 or 3 PM and there were like.. 8 people in line. i decided to wait a little bit to see what happened, and then i was like "eh, screw this" and i went and got tickets for DRS instead. i came back right before the show and the people who were in front of me got called in to get tickets. so i could have gotten something. i dont know, maybe it was a weird day.

It's totally unpredictable, if what I have seen is any indication. The 50 people you saw was most likely the SRO line since, the two times I was there, it stretched down the block quite a ways. SRO lines up against the theater wall facing 44th street... the cancellations line is in Shubert Alley.
Didn't try the cancellations line myself, but in comparison, it was a fraction of the SRO line. Couldn't have been more than 12 people. (This was mid-week, though. Tuesday night and Wednesday matinee)

Posted: 7/7/05 at 10:26amI stood in the cancellation line/SRO when the Producers was the hottest show in town--I believe there was only one line. We got in line for the 2pm matinee at 7am and there were already 10-12 people ahead of us. Most of them wanted SRO--which was a fraction of the cost of cancellation tickets, which are full price. I believe they don';t know their cancellations until no earlier than 1 hour before the show. That is why the SRO ticket line is long--the tickets are cheap and if you're in line early enough, it is likely you will see the show. Cancellation, I suppose , is not a sure thing, depending upon where you are in line.

I'm already well aware of which is the SRO line and which is the cancellation line.... and it *was* the cancellation line. The SRO line had about 20 people in it.
By the time I left the theatre, a good portion of the people had moved over to the SRO line though.
Last Wednesday, there were about 15 people sitting on the cancellation line after the matinee, waiting for cancellation tickets for the night show.
Call me crazy, there's just no so I want to see that badly.

Posted: 7/7/05 at 8:58pmThe cancellation line is EXTREMELY unpredictable. I thought it might be easier to get cancellation tickets since Hank Azaria is out until Nov., but I was just in the city last weekend, and ended up getting SRO tickets. I talked to a lady who said she had stood in the cancellation line for an entire day and got nothing. I am in no way an authority on the Spamalot cancellation line, BUT if you have a lot of time to spare and are willing to spend possibly hours in line, go for it. If you want to do SRO, you need to get to the theater between 7 and 7:30 AM, but that's just my 2 cents. SRO is not that bad and worth every bit of 21 dollars to see this hilarious show.

Well, I gave it a shot today with some crazy end results.
I went to the box office about 9:00 and found only the SRO line. I asked around and most people thought the cancellation line is combined with the SRO, so I got in it. Later, a man came out and made some announcements to the line and I then asked him about cancelled seats. He told me I was in the wrong line and sent me to the Shubert Alley side of the building to wait for tickets. I was sure to ask him if it would be better to hold my place in the SRO line and ask the box office for any cancelled seats when it was my turn, but he assured me that cancelled seats WOULD NOT be sold to the SRO before the cancellation line was offered them so I followed his instructions and switched lines.
About 45 minutes later he came out and said great news. They had four great seats released by the box office and ushered me inside to buy my two. As I got up to the window the man behind the counter said no, he had sold those seats to the people in SRO line who had inquired about full priced tickets. I was crest fallen. My "advice man" felt really bad for us and did an amazing thing. He asked what we were doing at 2:00. I told him nothing too important, so he offered us his comp tickets to see the dress rehearsal (gypsy performance) of Lennon next door. I was thrilled!
So we went to the show, sat fourth row center... and I was absolutely floored to find myself in a theatre filled with practically every notable Broadway performer of this season. I mean ALL of them. From the Spelling Bee kids to Sara Ramirez to Jeff Goldblum, Barret Foa, Kelli O'Hara, Mark Kudisch, Bruce Vilanch, Christian Borle...just to name a few. I was just two rows in front of Charlotte D'Amboise when her phone rang at intermission and she announced to everyone nearby that she just found out she was going on for Christina in Charity tonight and had to run.
I think this was the best afternoon I've ever had in NYC. After the show we hung out a little and observed the gatherings of people. I was in awe. Everyone seemed so friendly and outgoing.
In the end...we tried for Spamalot tickets after Lennon (which I really liked by the way!). We were ninth in line because our show put us there later than I would have planned and everyone in front of us got tickets...but we sadly did not.
That is okay, however, as I had an awesome day that I will never forget!! Go Spamalot cancellation line!
