Well well. Just returned from Spamalot, and I enjoyed it very much. Overall, I'd give it a 9/10, just about. It was very funny, and...well. Read on. Oh, and one question, for those who have seen it also: Was that person a plant (not in the veggie type)?
Story/Book: I've combined these two because, honestly, there isn't much to say. Not that that is a bad thing--most of the story (and much of the dialogue) comes directly from Holy Grail. However, the parts of the story that are changed are definitly changed for the better--some of the newer, fresher lines are a welcome surprise, as well as the plot twists that surprised me.
Songs: Classic. Absolutly classic! Hilarious, witty, and all together amazing. The few songs that were in the movies (Always look on the bright side of life, Knights of the Round table) were staged differently and brought (again) a fresher perspective to the already funny songs. The new songs that fit in to hte story (I am Not Dead Yet, Burn Her, etc.) were very amusing, but honestly, the funniest bits were the songs that are, frankly, random, such as "You Won't Succeed on Broadway" "The Song that Goes like this" and many other songs to this nature. I found myself crying due to laughing so hard more than once.
Performances: Tim Curry was very good, but not as good as I would have expected. However, he did have some standout moments, as well as Hank Azarai and David Hyde Pierce. However, the standout performer was Sara Ramirez...I smell Tony Noms!
Overall: A standout show, highly recommended, and MUCH better than much on broadway today!
