I was reading the Spelling Bee love thread and realized there is so much love on here for this great show so I wanted to start another one for the TOUR...I just saw it here in ATL and I LOVED IT!!!! I can't sing its praises enough. I am so happy they decided to bring it out of NY so us country folk can see it. (I posted at the end of the the Spelling Bee Love thread)
KUDOS TO THE CAST!!! So funny, so good and GREAT voices.
I am gunna try to see it again before they leave to go on tour...i think they go to Hartford or Baltimore next.
Anyone else see it?
I would love to hear your thoughts...I guess thats what this site is for huh?
(I am so new to this)
Hope to hear...J

I saw the show in Cleveland last night. I'd never heard the score before or seen the show, although I knew the basic gist of it.
It's a very enjoyable evening at the theater, that's for sure. I'm not sure it's a particularly good *musical* though as the score is fairly meaningless and doesn't add much depth or insight to things. I mean, it tries but it ends up being the least remarkable element of the evening. The songs all have one pretty simplistic idea that they just sort of go over and over for a few minutes and then they're done. It's all ancillary information.
The book, on the other hand, is great and hysterical and gives the characters a good base to work from, that allows both for moments of great comedy but also keeps them grounded enough that it's easy to get emotionally attached to them.
The cast was a lot of fun, too across the board. I especially enjoyed Vanessa Ray as Olive but I'm told I fall for girls like that from my seat in the audience easily
But she had all the warmth and is a great underdog to root for. Everyone else played a little more broad given their characters and were great.
Seriously, it's a good time and I show I look forward to seeing on the local level long into the future.
