I'll be passing through the city on Nov. 12 and I can't decide which show to see. I've narrowed it down to two: Spelling Bee or The Light in the Piazza.

Help? They both look so good. Suggestions/Opinions, please!

Thanks

I don't know... I've only seen Piazza which was great. It was full of emotion and had a pretty good story (the horse thing was weird, only people who have seen it now what I am talking about). I had a great time seeing the show though, BUUUTT...

I've heard lots of great things about Spelling Bee, and it seems hiarlious. The cast is supposed to be great and the everyone loves the show.

However, everyone loves both shows!!

I'd say depends on if what kinda show you wanna see. I don't know exactly what spelling bee is about, but I'm assuming it's not much a story story with any type of theme and intense emotion. However Spelling Bee is supposed to be really funny(Although Piazza actually has a lot of funny moments).

So it depends on your mood.

I saw both, and in the same day too! lol. I would suggest Spelling Bee for several reasons. It's more organic and unique. Piazza is beautiful, but if you have the cast recording you're fine in my opinion. Spelling Bee is hysterical, and if u see the bee you'll have more time in the city, its only 1.5 hrs so it gives you time to walk around and see other stuff.

i say piazza. ive only seen piazza, but i say to see it before kelli leaves, b/c she is truly amazing. both shows are so different. piazza is dramatic, but there are quite a few funny moments that will make you crack up. so i say piazza, b/c its closing at the end of march and i think spelling bee is still open ended. you can hear the OCR, but theres nothing like being there when kelli performs. her voice/performance alone is worth the admission price. ok, ive raved about piazza long enough! re: Spelling Bee or Light in the Piazza?

Thanks so much for your input!

I think I'm gonna go with Piazza since its closing soon, Kelli is leaving, and everyone on here seems to adore it. Also, after searching telecharge I've found that it has much better seating options for the specific performance I want.

I guess I'll catch Spelling Bee some other time.

good decision! I suggest Piazza too...but Spelling Bee is worth the effort, so make sure you see that as well too at some time.

Hope you have a ball...

Are you a member of the student ticket program at Lincoln Center? You can get tickets for $20 online or $30 day of if you are a student...

yea, and the seats are good for students... or at least I thought so. I got seats on the balcony, centerish (bit right) and like 2nd row there. It was great and got to see everything. Since it's a bit hard in some seats (front row orch for example) to see parts of the stage... since it's a quarter stage, or whatever you call the ones that have kind of 2 downstage areas almost and are like a quarter cirlce/square.

Anywayz, go with Piazza, it was good and losing soon, but DEFINETLY see Spelling Bee, I know I need to... I've heard too many great thigns not to.

Piazza soon will announce another extension beyond its current projected March closing date - to run into July (at least).

Apples and Oranges. If you want a lighter fun comedy, Spelling Bee. If you want something more romantic & dramatic with a little more depth, Piazza. They are both completely enjoyable. It just depends on what you're in the mood for.

Thank you so much!

Yes, I am a student...but I'm not currently a member of the student ticket program at Lincoln Center. I'm gonna go on the website to try and get in on this. Yay for cheap tickets!

I can't just go with my mood that day because I'll have to decide ahead of time. But, you've all convinced me that I have to see Spelling Bee too- hopefully I'll catch that soon!
