Mary Poppins (New Amsterdam Theatre) site:
Age Recommendation:
Disney recommends its productions for ages 6 and up. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a ticket.
Spider-Man (Foxwoods Theatre) site:
Children Rules:
Everyone (including children of all ages) must have a ticket for entry. Recommended for ages 8 and older. No one under 4 will be admitted. Ages 4-7 years to be approved by Management on site at time of entry.
Compare and contrast:
A smiling Mary Poppins rising stage to sky holding an open umbrella.
A dead Arachne rising stage to sky with a noose around her neck.
While I appreciate the Disney recommendation, I think it is okay to take a kindergartener who is at all familiar with the Mary Poppins character to see that show.
On the other hand, I think Spider-Man, if only because of the impact of the noose scene, should/could/would have something like a PG-13 rating. It is clearly not suitable for a ten year old, let alone a child in kindergarten.
p.s. And imagine showing up at the theatre with your family, including your seven year old first grader, and the kid isn't allowed in.
pps: Suggestion: If they give you an option of refunding all of your tickets, that's what you should choose.
