Can anyone who saw the off-Bway production tell me how they staged the opening number in this show? There is a lot of exposition and several different locations-- how did they handle this?
Thanks
never saw the show, but LOVED the movie, and LOVE the cast recording!!! a friend of redhot's played Percy in the show, and recently she was in Of Thee I Sing at Papermill... Updated On: 12/7/04 at 10:04 AM
in the opening of the show - the main character (Percy, played marvelously by Garrett Long) was standing at the uppermost platform of the set when she began singing, and at some point made her way down onto the stage level and then the song went on from there - moving through the various locations with lighting changes and set level changes. It was staged beautifully and it is really a thrilling show.
redhot, you know garrett long? I met her at an audition and she's a sweetheart. She worked at wichita with my best friend and he had nothing but great things to say about her! I love the spitfire grill too - beautiful music/lyrics and wonderful movie as well. I am dying to see it on stage.
leo - Garrett and I did the National Tour of Sunday in the Park with George together ten years ago - she was wonderful in it and has grown into such a beautiful and strong performer. I loved her in Spitfire Grill - she is amazing on the recording also.
That's great. I too love her on recording - her voice is similar to someone more well-known, but I can't put my finger on who...It's surprises me that she hasn't done much in NY since then.
Redhot - are you still performing?
Leo - funny you should ask that - I gave it up for about 4 years but I am currently doing my own cabaret show downtown at the Duplex - December 8 (tomorrow night, 15, and 22nd at 7:00 PM. if you're interested, you can call the Duplex for a reservation at 212-255-5438. and you can check out my web ad at this web address:
