Spitfire grill

I saw the musical that my community theatre where they did an excellent job, and one of my friends there gave me the off-broadway cast recording. I love it.

I just sasw the movie. I loved the beginning and realized that some of the lines in the movie are the same ones in the musical. Cool stuff. But the ending is so different.

I'm not sure which ending i like better. What do you guys think?

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

I think both endings work for the mediums they are in. The film ending wouldn't work on stage, and the stage ending wouldn't work in a straight movie.

you've got a point. i totally agree with you. but if you were just reading the story, which ending would be better.

re: Spitfire grill

i havent seen the show, but i do know how it ends and i have the cast recording. i have to say i like the movie. i dont know how much they change in the musical, but the movie is very dramatic, so you almost need it to end that way. isnt the musical supposed to be a comedy? b/c if it is, then that ending works better. like i said i cant really speak for both, but having seen the movie, i really like the ending. so summing up my rambling, i agree with BobbyBubby, each ending worked better in their own medium.

re: Spitfire grill

Probably the film version. The stage ending is a bit optimistic, and I think only really works in a musical.

re: Spitfire grill

ditto, bobby! the stage ending wouldve never worked on film. and the film ending would have totally clashed with the rest of the stage version.

random threadjack, but the movie is on today, i think it might have just ended, but i was mad b/c its on HBO2, which i dont have re: Spitfire grill and ive been looking everywhere for the DVD and i cant find it.

yankeesfan, the musical is not a comdey. Most of the lines come from the movie and they are funny. I don;t know. I like the musical better I think.

yeah it was on.

In the stage production, Shelby and Percy get the grill (and Percy doesn't die).

How does that work when they did the whole contest thing? The just ripped off all those people?

re: Spitfire grill

Hannah decided that the ad that Percy and Shelby wrote was the best essay on the grill, and she wasn't going go give the grill to "second best". Side note--I prefer the movie ending, but that might be because I saw the movie when it first came out and loved it (and cried like a baby)!

re: Spitfire grill

We just closed Spitfire Grill last night. I was Joe (Understudy) and performed yesterday.

It's a great show.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Hannah sends all the money back after she gives the spitfire to the girls.
