Has anyone seen any of the Spring Awakening enssemble in lead roles? Are they any good? I'm especially interested in hearing about Robi Hager. I hear he is wonderful.
Some people who saw Krysta as Wendla even preferred her over Lea Michele.
I've seen Krysta as Martha and Ilse. She's amazing at both. In my opinion, her Ilse is better than Lauren's. Her Martha was also excellent.
I've also seen Gerard as Georg and he was good. Not as powerful a voice as Skylar, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in the role again.
I saw Gerard as Otto. I was not a fan.

I was lucky enough to, by chance, see Robi Hager's first performance in any of the understudied tracks - Ernst. Totally, 100% completely different than Gideon Glick, but I REALLY loved his performance... I dare say better than Gideon's. Robi just seemed much more.. genuine. If I ever hear of Robi going on as Melchior and have enough notice, you can bet that I will be there.
Robi won't be going on as Melchior anytime soon. Matt Doyle is now the primary Melchior understudy for if and when Groff is ever out.

I saw him as Hanschen. Brilliant.
Granted, I have not seen Jon Wright's performance, so I cannot compare.

Robi- (Ernst) Very weak vocal. Seemed to copy Gideon's acting.
Gerard- (Hanschen) Not a great vocal. Acting was alright. He just looked way way way younger than all the other boys. It was like a 12year-old making moves on a 19 year-old.
Krysta - (Isle) Weak vocals. JG Jr. totally drowned her out when they sang together. Acting...alright. Heard her Wendla was great tho.
Jenn - (Martha) Great Acting. Didn't care for her "Dark I know well"
Jenn- (Thea) She played the role. And she sang it. Nothing special.

Gah! I'm TOTALLY marking-out right now!
SO proud that my (former) scene partner and colleague (Rob) is So well-received in SPRING AWAKENING! He's a wonderful guy - Really personable, humble as a mother, too. I was actually suppoed to do a show with Jenn, but she (obviously) left because of B'way calling... Both, again, are wonderful, beautiful people who I love, admire (and miss) greatly!
Krysta (Ilse)- Prefered to Lauren. Vocals better.. only problem was her hair cut, lol.
Krysta (Anna)- Great vocals, problem is still the hair.
Frances (Adult Women)- Amazing. Hilarious, better than Christine.
Gerard (Georg)- Vocals were "tweenish". But was fine.
Gerard (Otto)- Awful. Vocals were so weak and he dropped at least 5 lines.

I think that Robi has gone on for Georg as well.
I also know Robi personally, and he is indeed a very sweet, genuine young man. I told him that if he ever is scheduled to go on for Mechior, to let me know and I will hop on the next train to NYC.

Yes, Robi is a complete doll. You can't help but want to take him home......
and then set him on a couch and make watch cartoons and eat milk and cookies.

LOL!!!!
Gerard was my first Georg and he was alright, he fit the character very well.
Francis as adult women was genius, that woman is feirce.
Jen as Martha: After hearing negative things about her thea I was weary about seeing her. she has a great voice, but lacked stage presence. I would love to see her as Ilsa though
Krysta is a wonderful Wendla. She plays her as naive, not stupid. which is something that I greatly appreciated

I've seen Krysta on for Anna and for Wendla...When I saw her as Weldla it was her first time ever going on for her..she was good just very nervous...
I saw Robi on for Georg and for Ernst...he was good as both but not as strong of a voice as Skylar...good tho
I saw Phoebe on for Ilse...she was good but I perfer Lauren
I saw Jen on for Martha...she was really good...she and Lauren sounded really good together
Frances on for the adult woman was awesome...she puts a different spin on that character...i actually perfer her to Christine...
I would love to see Gerard on for someone

I, as well, worked with Robi on "Side Show" last summer. It's nice to see him being well reviewed (mostly).
I can't help but also feel 100%, totally jealous that we worked together on a show, he's on Broadway, and I'm doing Regional Dinner theatre but hey...lol...everyone at their own time, right?? LOL

There is that page on broadway.com that has Q & A with the stars of Spring Awakening and the understudies were left out. Does anyone at least know how old each of the uderstudies are?
I saw Frances (Adult Women) also, and she was amazing.

I know for sure that Robi is 20. Gerard is younger, like 17 or 18. Dunno about the girls.

Robi's birthday is 2 days before mine (in January). Except that I am 1,000 years older.
Actually, when they have cast parties for SA, they must serve milk (or juice or something)...many of them are too young to drink!
