What does one have to do to be part of the stage crew for a Broadway show? By stage crew I mean the people AT the show running around backstage moving sets and things. What kind of requirements are there?

oh local one...
first of all, you must either be a stagehand and thus a member of iatse (international alliance of theatrical stage employees) and to work on broadway you're probably a member of local #1 (which generally means that you or one of your ancestors has been working on broadway since before there was electricity) or you're a stage manager or assistant stage manager in which case you're a member of actor's equity. but the folks that are moving stuff are stagehands. you have to pay a lot of dues or be in with someone.
im kinda thinking about a stage manager position...or stage hand...but that seems to be a lot of work and requirements to do those jobs. sure sounds fun though!
it can be fun, but not when the show is terrible. try running sound or follow spot on a show that makes you want to put a bullet thru your head. ugh. makes the performance drag on for days.

not so true anymore. many people take the apprentice test and start that way.
Ha! That's a good one, LocalOne

there is actually a head of dept who was an apprentice. i can name at least 50 people with cards who started as apprentices. you are clueless and determined to remain that way
Au contraire. I'm sure Tony DiPaulo will back me up.

whatever makes you feel a little less insecure
Calling myself 'LocalOneCrew' would make me a little less insecure, but that name was already taken.
