Stage Dooring

Hello,

So I went to Spring Awakening at the Brook Atkinson, and unfortunately Marlee Matlin did not come out the stage door. Im guessing since it was a Saturday Matinee and she had another show later... so if I were to go back to the stage door another day after a night show without a playbill to sign but just to talk to her and take a photo with her would that be allowed since I would not be attending the performance? (Unless I snag a playbill)

Anyone done this before and just stagedoored without seeing that nights performance?

You're fully allowed to do that. I've done exactly what you're talking about on numerous occasions. Bringing your Playbill is definitely recommended, but even if you didn't, nobody would stop you.

Many people go to the stage-door who have not even seen the show at all. Personally, I don't approve of that. I think you should have seen the show at some point before going to the stage-door. But even if I don't approve of it, it's still very much ALLOWED. Nobody is going to stop them from going to the stage-door.

My daughters went to the 3 PM show last Sunday but did not do the stage door because they had to meet us at "Birdland" for the Daniel Reichard Christmas concert at 6 PM. They went back to the theater later that night after the 7:30 PM show and got their Playbills signed then. They were first in line and nobody said anything about it so I am sure you will be fine. Like others have said, bring your Playbill if possible so that is shows you attended the show. Also conversation with anybody is usually brief so don't be disappointed.

Anyone is allowed to wait at the stage door. Very rarely does security inquire as to whether or not you've seen the show (this is an attempt made to prevent autograph collectors from being there). One or two shows at the Gerald Schoenfeld they had one half of the barricade reserved for people who had attended that performance and the other reserved for people who did not, but, again that is very rare and typically only when it's an all star cast. But, people who do not see a show stage door all the time.
