Where is it? Haha. Just in case we get to the City too late to search it out.
And any stage door tips for a rookie? For LB in particular?
First of all, the Palace has the best stage door personnel so you'll be in great hands.
When you exit the theater turn right on the first block and you'll see the barricades. It's on 47th Street.
be prepared though... LB, SA, and Les Mis have pretty much the most insane stage doors... as does Hairspray I think... but like... it's literally five barricades long... and set up awkwardly... the audience is on the building side... anyone else find that weird?
if youre sitting in the orchestra, then just exit through the side doors (house left / stage right) and you will be right there by the baricades.

dang it. So I take it that the crowd has grown since previews and such? Although I should expect it...I saw the 2nd preview, and the crowd wasn't rude or pushy whatsoever, and it didn't seem to crowded. Well i'm glad I won't be in for a shock when I see it again.
I know this is different than the Palace in NYC, but does anyone know if the cast of the Color Purple come out of the stage door of the Cadillac PALACE in Chicago after matinees? I'm really curious!
THanks

I would suggest going to the Chicago board and asking....Probably though. And then again, if they are well-known actors, then maybe not.
The last time I saw the Color Purple (opening night) the entire cast did come out the stage door....including Oprah.

Bway history: The Palace stage door used to be in the alley all the way behind the stage house.
However during some show's run (La Cage or Woman of the Year?) some jerk threw stuff out of neighboring windows and seriously injured an actor who was leaving the theatre post-performance.
The door was reconfigured to be where it is now which explains why it opens right onto busy W 47th St.
Anyone else remember this? And for that matter, who was the actor and which show?
The Broadway stage door was on the other side of the theatre down a walkway which ran between the theatre building and the property line. However in the mid-80s the Shuberts sold the air rights, and the adjacent building was built beside the theatre making the old stage door obsolete. The door was moved to the W 53rd Street side. The new skyscraper is actually cantilevered over the Broadway theatre.
The Shuberts still own the land underneath, but not the skyscraper building itself. This produces a hefty annual rental. Part of the deal was that the facade be uniform for the new building and the old theatre.
If there is a new buiding next to or above an old theatre, air rights are involved.
