Did anybody see this show? Ohmigod, it was AMAZING...Steve Lutvak isn't just an awesome songwriter, but he's an amazing singer...people were cheering and laughing and crying...Nancy Anderson and Robert Pitkov (he was Perchik in Fiddler) and Katherine (I can't remember her last name, but she understudies Ashley in Mary Poppins) sang songs from Steve's musicals with him, and it was just a wonderful night...anyone interested in the future of the Broadway musical should keep an eye on him, he's the real deal, IMHO...he's won like every award this year.
I wasn't able to be there, but I agree with DecepitDesiree abvout the talent of Steve Lutvak.
Did someone sing "Beware the Anger of Soft-Spoken Men"?
No, PJ, No "Soft-Spoken Men", alas! But we did get "Museums"!
I was there and DD wasn't exaggerating - It was a truly extrordinary evening. I'm a big fan of Lutvak, and have followed his career for several years. This was an expanded version of Steve's shows at the Duplex, and the participation of Robert Petkoff, Nancy Anderson and Katherine Walker helped to bring the evening up to a very high level. The witty and melodious songs for Steve's (and Robert Freedmans) workshopping musical KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS (based on the classic Alec Guinness film) have never been sung and acted with more verve. The score has ben winnowed and improved greatly over the past year, and the show offered the debut of very black and very funny addition to the score, "The Thrill of The Kill". Of Steve's 'stand-alone' songs were the title song from MAD HOT BALLROOM, "Exit Right" from SONGS FROM AN UMADE BED (lyrics by Mark Campbell) "I'll Imagine You A Song" (written with Carol Hall), the aforementioned "Museums", the audience favorite "Dinner Party", "Sing You to Sleep" and the debut of the gorgeous "Unexpected Complications" (about a second, tentative second date with a potential boyfriend) - my dinner companion called me today to ask if the sheet music is available (it isn't, yet )
