wheee! What a wonderful show. I had to be one of the youngest people there, and felt totally out of my element, but what an incredible thing to witness. And Kitty Carlisle Hart was there!

Stokes was in top form tonight. He did some Cole Porter, some Gershwin, some Irving Berlin, a jazz arrangement by John Williams of some music from My Fair Lady, It's Not Easy Being Green, Maury Yeston's "New Words," and The Impossible Dream. gaaaaaaaah *is incoherent* Hearing that song live again made my month.

I can never get over what a rich, powerful, beautiful voice BSM has. But then, he can sing sweetly and softly, too. His smile is so warm and comforting, and he really made the audience feel welcomed and appreciated. He talked a lot - talked about his first TV pilot, film scoring, his son... just life in general. He seems like a great guy. Stokes at Feinstein's tonight!

I would have melted if I was there for the Impossible Dream. His voice is like butter!

Did he talk about working on Frasier?

When exactly did Feinstein's become the "it" place to perform? Have I been living under a rock? Benanti just performed there, Orfeh is performing in March and Stokes and Rivera both have multiple show engagements there. Is it a great room? What gives?

I have no idea; it's a really intimate space, but the shape of the room isn't particularly conducive to these performances. There's a whole section where it's kind of difficult to see.

That's what I thought LUV, but seeing the recent list of performers, I thought perhaps I missed them opening a *new and improved Feinstein's*. I'm still a bit confused about the recent line-up. Obviously, Rivera won't be dancing :). Have they always done the "Broadway's Brightest stars", series? Orfeh and even Benanti, seem like unusual choices for a cabaret space like Feinstein's. It sounds like Stokes was great, as usual.

I'm trying to think of other spaces that are typically used for this kind of stuff - Broadway people who are doing cabaret acts. The only one I've been to is Joe's Pub, but there's a huge difference between that atmosphere and the one at Feinstein's, obviously. I mean, it works, but it isn't the perfect space. Oh, well, he was excellent anyway. Haven't seen him live in a while. re: Stokes at Feinstein's tonight!

Yes, I envy you. And you're right, there is a world of difference bt Joe's pub and Feinstein's. Joe's pub would make more sense for the younger performers. But heck, as long as they're performing, that's a good thing.

She did, brdlwyr. My mom was the one who introduced me to BSM when she brought me to see Kiss Me, Kate a few years ago. She's been a big fan of his for a long time. Her only disappointment was that she said she wished he'd sung more musical theatre songs, but I thought it was good to see a different side of him as a performer. re: Stokes at Feinstein's tonight!

I feel your pain Marquise. And I won't be there in March either and for me, that's just as bad.

Al - JUST the younger performers? Ellen Greene isn't someone I would consider a "younger" performer. Not that she's old by any stretch and she had some (dare I say) amazing concerts there.

But yes, there are a lot of "young" talent bringing their sows to Joe's Pub. I prefer it over the Ars Nova...

I meant as opposed to playing at Feinstein's, I could more readily picture Benanti, Orfeh and Johnson doing debuts at Joe's pub. I wouldn't care if Greene was singing to me from a flagpole, you know how I feel about the lady.

What does she think of Rent. My wife does not enjoy it like me and the kids.

My mother actually has never seen RENT. I saw it with my father, and he fell asleep. The only thing he remembers is Today 4U, and Jai Rodriguez in the Santa costume. He hated it, and has no qualms with telling me that my seeing it more than once has been nothing but a waste of time. I can't stand that he's too closed minded to have tried to give it a chance. re: Stokes at Feinstein's tonight!
My mom just hasn't really gotten around to it yet. She does want to see it, if only to see what the big deal is, but it's not really very high on her list. She knows some of the music, mostly because I'll play it at home or in the car, or just because she knows about the implications of my having seen Adam sing Glory. She likes some of the score, but I don't know what she'll think of the show. One thing's for sure, and that's that I'm going to have to be there when she experiences it for the first time. I'm afraid she won't like it, but I want to see how she reacts, and hope she sees why it's so special to me. re: Stokes at Feinstein's tonight!

We saw Rent with my sister and brother in law (from a Southern Red state) He and my wife hated it and asked us why they did not get jobs and pay the rent. I posed the question to Anthony. He commented on this question on the Welcome Anthony page.

Well, there is an explanation, at least on Roger's part. My parents both grew up in New York, so I have no idea why they're so adversive toward it. re: Stokes at Feinstein's tonight!
